W roku 1863 król duński, Fryderyk VII rozpoczął starania o przyłączenie tych 3 księstw księstw do Danii. Było to powód do wojny wszczętej przez Prusy i Austrię przeciw Danii w 1864r zakończonej klęską Danii i podziałem 3 księstw między Prusy i Austrię, przy czym Lauenburg został włączony do Królestwa Prus. Wojna 1864r zapoczątkowała ciąg wydarzeń o dużym znaczeniu dla Europy: kolejnej wojny rozpoczętej przez Prusy przeciw Austrii w 1866r (bitwa pod Sadową), której następstwem było ustanowienie hegemonii Prus w Niemczech i usunięcie wpływów Austrii z Niemiec, utworzenie Związku Pólnocnoniemieckiego w 1867 r oraz przebudowa Austrii w Austro-Węgry z nadaniem polskiego samorządu Galicji; następnie wojna Prus z Francją w 1870r i utworzenie Rzeszy Niemieckiej ('Deutches Reich') w 1871r. W tym czasie Lauenburg włączony do Królestwa Prus był zaledwie jednym z pruskich powiatów ('kreis') i tylko niezwykła nazwa tego powiatu "Księstwo Lauenburga" była śladem jego dawnej odrębnej państwowości. Widoczny skomplikowany bieg granic, z licznymi enklawami, niekiedy o wielkości wsi lub części wsi.

In the 1st half fo 19th century Lauenburg was a seperate German dutchy and together with neigbouring dutches of Schleswig and Holstein remained under the reign of kings of Denmark. In 1863 Danish king Frederick the 7th was making efforts to incorporate the 3 dutchies to Denmark. It gave a reason for the war started by Prussia and Austria against Denmark in 1864, resulted in the defeat of the latter and a division of the 3 dutches between Austria and Prussia, by which Lauenburg was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia. The war of 1864 sparkled a course of events of great importance to Europe: a next war started by Prussia against Austria in 1866 (battle of Sadowa) which resulted in the establishmend of Prussian hegemony in Germany and removal of Austrian influence from there; the creation of the North-German Union in 1867 as well as reconstruction of Austria into Austria-Hungaria with granting of Polish autonomy to Galicia; then the war of Prussia againt France of 1870 and the creation of the German Empire ( 'Deutches Reich') in 1871. In that time Lauenburg incorporated to Prussia was merely one of Prussian sub-districts ('kreis') and only the original name of that kreis meaning "Dutchy of Lauenburg" was a trace of its formar position of a separate state. It is visible a complicated course of borders with numerous enclaves, some of them of the size of villages or parts of villages. |
